Illustration Escapades: Santa Cruz, CA

In late February, me and my husband Tanner and some friends traded the Toronto freeze for some California sunshine. Along for the ride was my trusty Canon AE-1, a Christmas gift from Tanner. Check out some of the photos I captured!
While the camera clearly needs some TLC (peep the light leaks), I kind of dig the effect. What do you think? Photography aside, the trip itself was unforgettable. We snagged an Airbnb right on the beach, learned to surf from a local legend, devoured the freshest seafood and produce, and stood in awe beneath the towering redwoods of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Needless to say, I refilled my illustration "inspiration tank".
Basking in the warm weather and soaking up the sun was a much-needed reminder that brighter days are ahead, even when things feel a little gloomy.
